Restaurant Review By Joe McNamee

While recently breaking bread with an infinitely younger friend-in-food, said friend expressed surprise that I might favour the Crawford Gallery Café, dismissing it as a tired, old haunt for ‘ladies who lunch’. It takes the brass neck of youth to so deliver such a bald statement, a blitheness further compounded when he then confessed to never having eaten there. Indeed, though highly creative and exceptionally talented in his own artistic sphere, he admitted it had been ‘some time’ since he’d even visited the gallery.

Irish Times Review by Catherine Cleary

The cafe takes time over its homely, hearty food – and so should you.

It’s disconcerting to see the drops of clear liquid harden and cloud like candlewax when they hit the glass table top. Is this what’s happening in my arteries? But that thought doesn’t stop me fishing for another hot wobble of marrowbone to slather on a corner of toasted sourdough.

Irish Examiner Restaurant Review

THERE are moments, just passing ones, but moments of real promise, at this time of the year when the hard, cobalt blue of the cold winter sky is softened by strands of viridian light, an energising, germinating light that promises that spring is coming on the next train; that the circle is indeed unbroken.

The moments pass, later to become spring and summer’s norm, but their pledge is always uplifting.

The Crawford Gallery Cafe is located, as you might have guessed it, in the Crawford Art Gallery in Cork City. If you don't know where to find it, it is on Emmet Place which is just around the corner from the Opera house/ at the top of Opera Lane/ very near Academy Street or Paul Street - whatever gets you there quicker.
