Set in a largely pedestrianised area of Cork City, beside Cork Opera House, the Crawford Gallery Cafe is located in the magnificent Crawford Art Gallery.
Built in 1724 and originally Cork Custom House, this is one of the oldest and finest buildings in Cork City. The elegant dining room has a beautiful high ceiling with paintings from the Crawford’s permanent collection. Opened over 25 years ago by Ballymaloe House, the Cafe has been under the management of Jean Manning since 2009 but is still closely linked to the world famous country house.
We buy seasonal and locally produced food and serve a short but carefully thought out menu. Freshly prepared dishes reflect the Ballymaloe philosophy that fresh food should be treated with care and simply prepared. Our menu changes weekly although a few specialities are too popular to take off!
The Spinach and Mushroom Pancake and our delicious Fishcake with Homemade Tartar Sauce and seasonal salads being firm favourites. There’s always a Tart, a Warm Salad, and a comforting hearty casserole with lamb or beef from the English Market.
We have gorgeous vegetarian options such as Indian Red Lentil Dhal or Aubergine, Puy Lentil and Spinach Moussaka.
Breakfast in the cafe is hugely popular, especially on Saturdays, when our regulars enjoy Eggs Benedict, American Style Pancakes and Clonakilty Black Pudding on Toast, along with freshly squeezed orange juice and Illy coffee.
We at the cafe also ensure that gluten free options are available on our menu and at our cake counter, including daily baked Somerset Apple and Almond Cake and Flourless Chocolate Cake.
Prompt service by friendly, informed and helpful staff ensure a lovely dining experience in one of the city’s most popular meeting places.
